Ableton Live doesn't have a dedicated noise reduction tool, but you can use some built-in features and third-party plugins to reduce background noise in your recordings.

Using EQ Eight in Ableton Live

1. Identify the Noise Frequency:

- Open your audio clip in Ableton Live and listen to it. Try to identify the frequencies that correspond to the background noise. (Certainly, this method seems viable to me; I understand its concept. It involves the elimination of higher frequencies, which commonly align with background noise.)

2. Open EQ Eight:

- Drag and drop the EQ Eight device onto the track containing your audio clip. (Not sure what EQ Eight is; perhaps a type of EQ)

3. Enable High-Pass Filter:

- In the EQ Eight, enable the high-pass filter by clicking on the "HP" button. This filters out low frequencies, which often include background noise. (Certainly, this approach could also be effective, especially when rolling off the low end of a vocal, unless your voice has a substantial low-frequency emphasis.)

4. Adjust Frequency and Slope:

- Set the frequency of the high-pass filter to target the frequencies of the background noise. You may need to experiment to find the right frequency. Also, adjust the slope to make the filtering more or less aggressive.

5. Fine-Tune Q and Gain:

- Use the Q and Gain controls to fine-tune the filter. The Q control adjusts the width of the filter, and the Gain control adjusts the level of the filtered frequencies.

6. Add More EQ Adjustments:

- You can further refine the EQ to target specific frequencies using additional bands. For example, you might use a notch filter to target a narrow band of frequencies where the noise is prominent.

7. Experiment and Listen:

Yeah, it's often best to address background noise before recording. Having a quality microphone, something decent around $100, is a good starting point. A reliable mic paired with an audio interface can solve many issues. Additionally, EQs play a crucial role. Room treatment, eliminating echoes, and ensuring a noise-free environment are key factors. I've heard about Adobe introducing an AI vocal enhancer; I tested it, and it was alright. Ultimately, you want to avoid distractions in your recording space, like background noises such as a lawnmower.

Consider the following techniques:

- Use a pop filter or windscreen to reduce plosive sounds.

- Record in a quiet environment, away from sources of noise.

- Experiment with microphone placement to find the least noisy position.

Remember that complete removal of all background noise may not always be possible without affecting the quality of your desired audio. Always listen critically and make adjustments to strike a balance between noise reduction and audio quality.

I've experimented with pop filters in the past, and while they don't necessarily make or break the recording, having a well-controlled environment certainly helps. I resonate with the idea of experimenting with microphone placement; keeping about a foot away is my usual preference, but getting closer can yield interesting results.

The point about not completely eliminating all background noise is valid to a certain extent. I'm particularly intrigued by the potential impact of artificial intelligence on vocals in the future.
